I think we’re losing old Kona. Our first Kai Ken. He’s been “off” today – disoriented, confused, slow moving, panting, and not eating. No fever or anything, so I’m thinking it’s old age. We’ll get him to the vet to double check tho. Kona is our first Kai Ken. He’s the reason we started our preservation efforts. Not because of all his great qualities, but because he was a clear example of how bad the breed desperately needed help. We took on the task of bring health and diversity back to the breed because of Kona. That said, amung his “issues” there’s some great qualities too. I’ve never owned a dog with such good dog-dog social skills. He’s also rugged and tough dog, and generally sweet (tho less so as he ages). So, for all of you who own Kai Ken connected to our efforts, you have Kona to thank. ♥️ #Kai #KaiKen #甲斐犬 #NihonKen #JapaneseDog #日本犬 #YamabushiKennel #YamabushiKensha #山伏犬舎
